When I first arrive in a city and want to see the sites, I love to get an aerial view. If you feel the same then you have to sail over the napa valley in a balloon. There are several companies which offer balloon rides over the napa valley, CA including Companies like “Balloons over the Valley” and “Napa Valley Balloons, Inc.” Your ride can include pick-up from your napa valley hotel if you desire and you’ll take off in the morning. You’ll witness amazing architecture and Victorian mansions as well as get incredible views of many napa vineyards. The balloon pilots of Napa Valley are all quite knowledgeable about the history of the area and after the flight you’ll be treated to a champagne brunch. What better way to start your trip. The views are incredible and you just want to enjoy the outdoors without taking to the hiking trails you can also do picnic, camp or play disc golf at the park.

The next park, Westwood Hills Park also has picnic areas and amazing views. I recommend it more for hiking and backpacking than horseback riding and you can’t bring your mountain bike so think of Westwood Hills as a little quieter and a bit smaller so if crowds aren’t your thing, Westwood Hills might be as many people miss this little gem. This Park has the best hiking trails in Napa Valley.

A city walking tour of Yountville is a great way to see some of the sites that you viewed from the air to include charming restaurants and shops of Napa Valley, CA. If you want to find souvenirs aside from napa wine, Yountville is worth your afternoon. Scientopia Discovery center is a science museum of Napa Valley which is relatively inexpensive (under $10 for adults, $5 for children and a second adult is free) and is open 363 days per year (closed Thanksgiving and Christmas). Scientopia  Discovery Center of Napa Valley has lots of exhibits to include windmills, light tables, bubble exhibits, a wind tunnel and even a bike where up to 5 children can ride at once to generate power. Another absolute favorite for kids of all ages is Safari West Wildlife Preserve. The park is over 400 acres and based on animals which are found in African wildlife preserves. Most guests will take the Safari vehicle tour which lasts a few hours and includes some walking. In all there are more than 700 animals, at the Wildlife Preserve.

My favorite item there, is the refreshing chilled noodle salad, or bun cha gio thit nuong, which comes dressed in a spicy fish sauce and lime vinaigrette. The cha gio (fried imperial rolls) are substantial, cylindrical hunks of oil-crisped rice paper wrapped around ground meat. Dizzam! Those cha gio are a force to be reckoned with!

#2. La Mediterranee: In the Fillmore District of San Francisco, this tiny restaurant is flanked by colorful boutiques with glistening glass windows that showcase flowing mesh skirts and dangly artisan jewelry. You can work up a hearty appetite after perusing what the neighborhood shops have to offer and then feast on soft and chewy pita breads that are kept warm in cloth napkins. The pita breads are partnered wonderfully with La Mediterranee’s flavorful extravaganza of thick and creamy Mediterranean dips, made with ingredients such as chickpeas, eggplant, or tart Greek yogurt. #3. Amber India: This is my all time favorite indian restaurant. Dining area is huge and the wine list of here is also awesome Some of the favourite dishes are Samosas, Butter Chicken, Kashmiri Lamb Rogan josh, Zhinga Rubiyani, Lasooni Saag Paneer (spinach), Saffron Pulao rice, Amber Special Naan.

#4. Café Bastille in Belden Place: Belden Place is a quaint, cute alleyway bordering Chinatown and the Financial District in San Francisco. Belden Place contains restaurants that are San Francisco’s closest equivalent to the bistros on the cobblestone streets of Europe. Strings of white Christmas lights dangle wistfully across the skies and outdoor chairs and tables line the length of the alleyway. The alongside the tables are glowing heater lamps that warm your relaxed shoulders on chilly evenings and open-faced umbrellas that provide a blanket of shade on sunny days. My favorite restaurant in Belden Place is Café Bastille–I love it because of the croque madame sandwiches, with the blistered and enveloping gruyere surface and the glistening and runny egg yolk that oozes oh-so-gracefully over this classic open-faced French ham sandwich.

#5. Marnee Thai: Walking into the restaurant, you will immediately notice several things about this comfortable place. First is the hatch-patterned bamboo façade on the walls. The second is the numerous plaques and certificates decorating those walls. Those awards are for winning international competitions for pad thai. And yes, I said “international” competitions. Their awards for the pad thai are extraordinarily well-deserved. This place seriously has the best pad thai outside of Thailand. The flavors in the pad thai are delicate and arousing, with the perfect amount of tartness and sweetness from the tamarind paste. The noodles are also immaculately textured–mildly agglutinative but firm enough to be discrete, separate from the other noodle tendrils.

#6. Zuni Cafe: Zuni Cafe is open for both lunch and dinner and it does accept reservations. With their menu options changing daily, you can visit Zuni again and again and have a new experience every time. The menu options are reasonably priced, with entrees in the $20-$30 range, and are made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. The dishes at Zuni are creative, interesting and are things that you will not find anywhere else. Most of the dishes at Zuni contain meat, so it might not be the best option if either you or your date do not eat meat. #7 Levende Lounge: Levende Lounge elegantly serves world fusion small plates. When you walk in, you will be treated to a full bar and cocktail menu. They also host international and local Djs for their nightly entertainment. The mizuna and haricot vert was drizzled with a maple and mustard vinaigrette that was just a perfect combination. Winchester Mystery House:

The Winchester Mystery House is a well-known California mansion that was under construction continuously for 38 years, and is reported to be haunted. It once was the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester, but is now a tourist attraction. Under Winchester’s day-to-day guidance, its “from-the-ground-up” construction proceeded around-the-clock, without interruption, from 1884 until her death on September 5, 1922, at which time work immediately ceased. The cost for such constant building has been estimated at about US $5.5 million (if paid in 1922, this would be equivalent to almost $70 million in 2008 dollars).

The mansion is renowned for its size and utter lack of any master building plan. There is something incredibly romantic about being on the Santa Monica Pier. There are a few nice restaurants on the Santa Monica Pier, and if you choose to take your date here, I highly recommend dining somewhere sit down like Back on the beach, Bruno’s ocean front restaurant. These restaurants are not that heavy on the pocket. The entrees would be between $8 to $15 or if your looking for something classier then Boa steakhouse or The lobster would be great .I would not recommend going to ocean and vine. One Pico is a fabulous restaurant with fantastic views and phenomenal food. Boa is a great restaurant with a well-informed server. Ocean & Vine does not live up to either of those. For ocean view restaurants you could try, big deans ocean front cafe or if you prefer something classier and expensive then Catch restaurant and sushi bar would be the way to go. Entrees here are $25 and up. After dinner, you can go play! Make sure to win your date a stuffed animal in the midway. Take her for a ride on the roller coaster or the bumper cars. Buy an ice cream cone for dessert. Then you can finish off the night by taking her for a ride on the Ferris wheel. If all has gone well, you may be able to say your first kiss was up in the air overlooking the Pacific Ocean; I don’t think there could be anything more romantic.

This is a great place to take a party girl or one who loves to shop. (However, if you have a shop-a-holic as your date, don’t take her here unless you really will enjoy going shopping with her. Other places you could go would be bubba Gump shrimp co., Buca Di gecko. And then after dinner, you have a huge array of entertainment choices. You could go shopping. You could go to any of the clubs mentioned above. You could go bowling at Lucky Strike, or play at the arcade below it, or if conversation is feeling bumpy, you could see a movie.

You can have dinner at one of the restaurants along the beach, such as Gladstones, Dukes, or Paradise Cove. Paradise Cove also has a private beach. My all time favourite place to go to for a romantic date would have to be the sky room. Be Fred Astaire to her Ginger Rogers when you take her for dinner and dancing at the elegant Art Deco Sky Room on top of the historic Breakers building in Long Beach. From this height, you can see up and down the coast, and on a clear winter day, there is a stunning view of the LA basin with snow-capped mountains in the background. It’s truly breath taking.
